Street-lighting work brings civil, structural, electrical, utility, and roadway decisions together at each pole location. A complete package may involve survey control, underground pathways, foundations, poles, luminaires, conductors, grounding, controls, utility service, traffic control, testing, restoration, and closeout. Those elements have to match the approved lighting design and fit the same site sequence as grading, drainage, utilities, pavement, landscaping, and public access.

Start with the approved lighting design and governing criteria

Pole locations, mounting heights, fixture types, distributions, aiming, circuiting, controls, and light-level criteria should come from the approved project documents. Civil, landscape, utility, and electrical sheets should be compared so poles do not conflict with drainage structures, underground utilities, trees, accessible routes, sight lines, building features, or future maintenance access. Installation access also belongs in the plan. Drill or excavation equipment, concrete delivery, lifting equipment, pole staging, overhead conditions, traffic, pedestrians, adjacent businesses, and other trades can affect the safe work area and sequence. Temporary controls and restoration limits should be defined before mobilization. If a trenchless crossing is proposed, the design information and Bravo delivery method require separate project-specific confirmation.

Carry electrical interfaces through testing and turnover

Pole, luminaire, arm, base, conductor, enclosure, control, and service equipment selections affect submittals, lead times, storage, installation, and warranty requirements. The proposal should state which materials are contractor-furnished or owner-furnished and who is responsible for procurement, receiving, inspection, substitutions, damaged components, and manufacturer coordination. Circuit routing and equipment details should be resolved early enough to protect underground and foundation work.

Turnover requirements may include inspections, conductor and grounding checks, control verification, fixture operation, aiming, light-level or photometric acceptance, utility coordination, record information, product data, warranty documents, and corrective work. The approved documents determine the exact tests and witnesses. Utility service, energized connections, commissioning, and final acceptance are included only when the project documents and Bravo proposal assign them explicitly.

02 Does the Street Lighting service automatically include lighting design or photometrics?

No. Pole locations, fixture selection, mounting heights, distributions, aiming, circuiting, controls, structural details, and performance criteria should be established by the approved project documents and responsible design professionals. 03 Who supplies the poles, luminaires, controls, and electrical equipment?

That boundary is project-specific. The proposal should identify contractor-furnished and owner-furnished materials, approved manufacturers, submittal responsibility, substitutions, delivery dates, receiving and storage, damaged-material responsibility, startup support, and warranty documentation. Equipment information must be coordinated with foundations, anchor bolts, conduit entries, circuiting, controls, and utility requirements before installation.

04 Are utility service, energized connections, testing, and commissioning included?

Only when the approved documents and Bravo proposal assign those items explicitly. The serving utility, electrical design, permit requirements, equipment instructions, and authority having jurisdiction determine the applicable service, inspection, testing, energization, and acceptance path. The bid should name the responsible party for each step and identify any required witnesses or release conditions.

05 What changes for street lighting in a public right-of-way or on an FDOT-governed project?

Confirm the roadway owner, approved permit and lighting plans, structural and electrical details, maintenance-of-traffic requirements, work windows, inspections, restoration, documentation, and acceptance process. FDOT-governed work does not by itself establish contractor prequalification or approval; project-specific qualifications and responsibilities still require verification.
